Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her US tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles says farewell to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
