The former Liverpool manager says coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, remarked that returning someday is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-season tenure that included continental glory and ending the club's long wait since 1990, has since taken on roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I said I refuse to lead another team in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means I might decide in a few years, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, yet sharing a meal with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits around the place. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship last campaign. The team has suffered four in a row in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the notion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed during his tenure, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. Not a single person will ever use it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this individually is not easy. Impossible.”
