The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Show History
The drama premiered in 2012 and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for further series.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
