The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”

The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
